Answer 1

Answer:

The war officially began over a border dispute in what is now south Texas, but President James K. Polk had a larger goal in mind – the acquisition of Mexico’s northern territories of Alta California and Nuevo México.

President Polk initially planned a limited war, but Mexico’s stubborn refusal to part with its northern territories led to a decision to invade and conquer Mexico City.     MORE DOWN HERE SCROLL

Mexico lost 55% of its territory to the United States between 1836 and 1848.

The U.S. Army won every major battle in the war, but it was unable to suppress guerrilla activity, which never ceased.  This was America’s first counter-insurgency war in a foreign country.

Mexicans civilians suffered from the U.S. occupation, whether from personal violence, extended anti-guerrilla operations, bombardment of cities, or the imposition of martial law.  U.S. military forces remained in Mexico from May 1846 until July 1848.

Of the 90,000 U.S. soldiers who served in Mexico, nearly 14,000 died, a death rate of 15.5% – the highest rate of any foreign war in U.S. history.

Regarding the causes of death, one U.S. soldier in seven died in battle or from battle wounds; six in seven died from disease, accidents, or other causes.

1. Compare the views of Bradstreet and Johnson toward American Indians.
2. Explain how Indian perceptions of the relationship between the two groups differ.

Answers

Answer and Explanation:

Bradstreet has an aggressive and negative view of the North American indigenous people, he believes that they are savage, violent, uncivilized and that they must be fought in the name of the goals of the English. He believes that the Indians are oppressive and that this should not be tolerated. He believes that the Indians will unite against England and for that reason it is necessary to be prepared. Probably, this view that Bradstreet has towards indigenous people comes from bad experiences he had with the tribes, as well as an imperialist thought full of prejudices and a strong racism and intolerance.

Johnson, on the other hand, although he believes that indigenous people are uncivilized, he believes that working for them will be more profitable for the English, than fighting them. He believes that indigenous people are a fascinating people and that they have dominion over the lands that the English are taking over. Even in the midst of this, the Indians are willing to divide the land and for this they make small demands that can easily be met by the English, establishing harmony with all peoples. Johnson's view comes from the humanistic character and the peaceful nature that he possessed.

Answer:

Johnson and Bradstreet thought that the American Indians were a threat to the settlers. Johnson believed that American Indians could be harmful to Britain. Bradstreet believed that American Indians were savages and the enemy. Johnson believes that the Indians seem to be the enemy, but they have to be given a chance. He thinks that they could possibly be allies. While on the other hand, Bradstreet completely think the worst of the Natives. He thinks that the Natives are the enemy and doesn't want to create any type of relationship with them.

A new generation of builders is devising daring structures that celebrate natural materials, push for eco-consciousness — and argue for a more democratic future

Explanation:

UNTIL LESS THAN a century ago, the Ayoreo peoples of Paraguay lived nomadically in the Chaco, a hot, dry region of savannas and thorn forests covering nearly 200 million acres spread across western Paraguay, southeastern Bolivia, northern Argentina and a small fringe of southern Brazil, a region once known by the Spanish as the infierno verde, or “green hell.” The Ayoreo were resourceful in building their modest shelters: Depending on the materials available to them, they might construct a low dome of leaves over branches cut from quebracho (ax breaker) trees, dig the hot earth out from underneath until they reached the cooler subsoil, then mix that excavated dirt with cactus sap, spreading the resultant thick paste between the leaves of the roof above to waterproof it. Settled into the hollowed ground beneath the dome, the interiors were cool and dim, a reprieve from the forest’s hostility. “These shelters don’t get recognition for being ‘green’ or ‘eco-friendly,’” says the 50-year-old architect José Cubilla, who’s based in Asunción, Paraguay’s capital, a slow-paced riverside city built at the point where the Chaco in the west meets the iridescent meadows and forests that unfurl across the country’s east. “But this is what interests me: obvious things, obvious solutions, simple materials.”

Can someone help me answer this pls!! I give 100 points ¿THREE paragraph essay summarizing the battle between the Native Americans and the U.S. Government?

Answers

Answer:

Change happened fast in the late 1800's. While "progress" was great for some, it also spelled the end of hundred of years of Native American tradition. It was hard to believe that the American West and East were part of the same country. The West was primarily an area of homestead farmers, miners, and cattle ranchers. While Easterners tried to make their way farther and farther west with the growth of industry and railways, Native Americans desperately clung to the hopes of maintaining their territory and tribal traditions.

Conflict between whites settlers and Native Americans had been around since the earliest settlements. Now that industry was expanding so rapidly, the fight for land brought a whole new face to these disagreements. The need for land, as well as the feeling of superiority to the Native Americans were the driving forces behind most of the policies derived in the 1870's and 1880's. The transcontinental railroad became the catalyst for much of the new conflict. Before its completion, the only Americans to venture westward had done so on horseback or covered wagon. Now thousands more could move across the much more quickly and a much less cost. In addition, what settlers also wanted the land to farm. Native Americans were increasingly pushed off their lands and forced onto reservations. The Indian Removal Act also contributed to this. At the beginning of the 1830s, Native Americans lived on millions of acres of land in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and Florida.

This was land that their ancestors had occupied and cultivated for generations. After this act came into effect, very few natives remained anywhere in the southeastern United States. They were pushed out West. Working on behalf of white settlers who wanted to grow cotton on the Indians' land, the federal government forced them to walk thousands of miles to a designated "Indian territory" across the Mississippi River.
