How did the emergence of Nation-States and Nationalism in the mid-19th century play a role in Western Imperialism

Answers

Answer 1

The Puritan revolution in 17th-century England was the first full manifestation of modern nationalism. England had established itself as the world's most influential nation in terms of political activity, business, and scientific endeavor.

The English people had a lot of faith in the new era and felt like they were carrying the mission of history on their shoulders. They knew that they were at a great turning point, where a new true reformation and new liberty would start. The influence of the Bible gave form to the new nationalism by identifying the English people with ancient Israel, and in the English revolution, an optimistic humanism merged with Calvinist ethics. The poetry of the poet John Milton (1608–1744), in whose famous vision the concept of liberty was seen spreading from Britain, "celebrated for endless ages as a soil most genial to the growth of liberty," to all corners of the earth, expressed the new message that the new people carried not only for England but for the entirety of humanity.

Therefore, English nationalism was much closer to its religious foundation than later nationalisms that emerged after greater progress in secularization. However, it shared its enthusiasm for liberty, humanitarian bent, and emphasis on individual rights and the human community over all national divisions with the nationalism of the 18th century. The rise of the English trading middle classes and the rise of English nationalism came at the same time. It influenced American and French nationalism in the following century in the form that it found its final expression in John Locke's political philosophy.

It is important to note that the predictions of the models are based on assumptions, data availability and the complexity of the climate system and they are not definitive. Additionally, the real-world data of hurricane activity is highly uncertain and hard to get, therefore, the study's results should be seen as a projection of what might happen in the future, rather than a definite prediction. Despite these limitations, the study serves as a reminder that climate change is a real and pressing concern, and that steps must be taken to address it.

Radar and sonar were developed between the two world wars. Describe how these new inventions were used during World War II and their uses after the war.

Answers

Answer:

Radar technology played a significant part in World War II and was of such importance that some historians have claimed that radar helped the Allies win the war more than any other piece of technology, including the atomic bomb.

Sonar on a submarine is very similar. The sub sends out a sound—a ping—which bounces off a nearby object in the ocean and creates an echo that returns to the boat. World War II submarines could stay underwater for up to two days. During that time, sonar operators were hard at work.

Explanation:

Radar was originally developed to detect enemy aircraft during World War II, but it is now widely used in everything from police speed-detector guns to weather forecasting.

Sonar is also used in acoustic homing torpedoes, in acoustic mines, and in mine detection. Nonmilitary uses of sonar include fish finding, depth sounding, mapping of the sea bottom, Doppler navigation, and acoustic locating for divers.

In the 1850s, the major political disagreement between northern and southern states was about option A.) “slavery.”

After the Mexican-American War, which ended in February of 1848, a major conflict arose that caused conflict: a boundary was needed to define the difference between areas of slavery and antislavery. Especially regarding land from the Mexican-American War, the north and south both desired for a line to be drawn. The Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo ceded 55% of Mexico’s land to the United States, most of which had an undecided sovereignty level. The Missouri Compromise came in to solve this issue, but it wasn’t long before Abraham Lincoln was elected and tipped the balance of slave states versus that of free states.

Give a brief account Individualism.

Individualism is a moral position, political philosophy, ideology, and social viewpoint that places an emphasis on each person's inherent value. Individualists support pursuing one's goals and desires, valuing independence and self-reliance, and arguing that one's own interests should take precedence over those of the state or of a social group. They also oppose external interference in one's own interests by society or institutions like the government. Often, individualism is characterized in contrast to authoritarianism, collectivism, and other more oligarchical social structures. The underlying premise of individualism is that the human person is of the utmost importance in the struggle for liberty. As a result, individualism centers on the individual. Movements that use the human individual as their primary analytical unit include anarchism, existentialism, liberalism, and libertarianism.

What are the 3 reasons why Darwin's ideas were slowly accepted?

Answers

There was insufficient evidence when the theory was released to convince many scientists, and the process of inheritance and variation was not discovered until 50 years after the hypothesis was published.

What exactly is Darwin's theory?

Darwin claimed that species evolve over time, that new species emerge from pre-existing species, and that all species share a common ancestor. According to this paradigm, each species has its own set of heritable (genetic) differences from the common ancestor that have accumulated gradually over very long time periods.

Repeated branching processes, in which new species diverge from a common ancestor, resulting in a multi-level "tree" that connects all living organisms. Darwin refers to this process of heritable trait change in groups of animals over generations as "descent with modification." It is now known as evolution.

Darwin's sketch above exemplifies his point by demonstrating how one species can split into two over time, and how this process can occur several times on the "family tree" of a group of related species.
