1. (a) Make Inferences How much interaction was there between African Americans and whites where Hurston grew up? (b) Analyze Do you think Hurston's fearlessness affected the way in which white people treated her? Explain your reasoning.
Yes, Hurston's fearlessness is likely to have influenced how white people treated her.
Interaction and Fearlessness (a) Eatonville, Florida, one of the first exclusively black villages to be founded in the US, was where Zora Neale Hurston was raised. As a result, it might be assumed that because her birthplace was primarily made up of black people, there was little interaction between them and white people there. Hurston did, however, attend a diverse university in Washington, D.C., Howard University, and she also travelled to other locations, including New York City, where there was more interaction between African Americans and whites.
(b)Hurston's lack of fear undoubtedly altered how white people viewed her. Hurston was renowned for having a strong personality and not allowing anyone—no matter their race—to intimidate her. She spoke out against injustice and frequently challenged the current quo, which would have made some white people uneasy. Nonetheless, some white people may have respected her for her boldness and perseverance because of her confidence and assertiveness. Nevertheless, it might be claimed that Hurston's fearlessness gave her more agency and autonomy than some other African Americans of her era as she moved through a racially segregated society.

when nick comes home to west egg that night, what does he find unusual? how does this description contribute to the mood?
In "The Great Gatsby," when Nick comes home to West Egg that night, he finds Gatsby's house lit up brightly, but there's no party or guests. This unusual scene contributes to the mood by creating a sense of mystery and anticipation around Gatsby and his actions. So the answer is: he finds Gatsby's house lit up brightly, but there's no party or guests.
This is unusual for several reasons. First, it is late at night, and Gatsby is typically known for throwing extravagant parties during this time. Second, Gatsby is standing alone in the dark, which is unlike his usual behavior of being surrounded by a crowd of people. Finally, Gatsby seems lost in thought and fixated on the green light, which adds to the eerie and mysterious atmosphere.
This description contributes to the mood of the novel by creating a sense of ambiguity and tension. The reader is left wondering why Gatsby is standing alone in the dark and staring at the green light, which is a symbol of his unattainable dreams and desires. The scene also adds to the overall atmosphere of isolation and emptiness that pervades the novel, as Gatsby is portrayed as a lonely figure who has achieved material success but is unable to attain true happiness or love. Therefore the answer is: he finds Gatsby's house lit up brightly, but there's no party or guests.

"Can you chop the scallions
Sen didn't look away from his smartphone to reply to his mother's request. He was busy texting Vince Condova about a new show they were planning to binge watch Friday night.
"Seo....Seo
"What?"
"What do you mean, "What'? I need you to chop the scallions." It was 11:30 am, and the Town Pavilion-the office building Suk) food truck R-GO-g was parked outside of-was about to unleash a stampede of customers. "I have to get this beef
marinating, otherwise in a half hour I'm going to lose a bunch of hungry tax consultants to the chicken and waffle guys across street.
Selen smiled, but Ji-Suk couldn't see his eyes from under his royal blue cap. Then she realized he was still looking at his phone, which he was concealing below his knees as his fingers tapped the screen,
"Hey! She threw a kitchen towel at him, and it unfurled in midair and landed on his head, draping itself over the brim of his cap
"Okay, okay, I'll do it."
Suk had made a name for herself in Kansas City, especially after a local magazine wrote a big cover story when she left her job as an attorney at a law firm after seven years to start a food truck business. If her own mother had still been alive, she would
have been quite upset with Sk for that. Her mother had spent years learning to speak relatively good English, and she'd been determined to make sure i-Suk graduated from a respectable college and became a lawyer. Even though she'd made i-Suk take
Korean lessons every Saturday morning followed by violin lessons in the afternoon-and cooked kimchi and other Korean delicacies with her at least once a week-Sky mother had wanted her to succeed by American standards.
And she had. She'd become a lawyer, just like her mother wanted, but she'd also learned to love burnt end barbecue, a local culinary favorite. She was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. She even loved playing softball; she had a wickedly fast windmill
pitch, having played throughout college and graduate school and on the law firm's recreational team. Suk had succeeded by American standards in ways her mother couldn't have imagined, and in ways her mother probably didn't want, but Ji-Suk couldn't
do anything about that. She was American, just as much as she was Korean, and even though her mother wouldn't have wanted her to do it, starting the food truck was Skx way of honoring her mother and showing that she valued what her mother had
taught her.
Still, she was determined not to force
but he never did
to do the things her mother had forced her to do. He wouldn't have to take violin lessons, nor would be have to learn Korean. She was more than willing to let him take Korean lessons if he showed any interest,
She wasn't sure, however, whether she was doing the right thing, as Ses:Jun didn't seem to want to play sports, nor did he have any serious hobbies. He got by in school, but he didn't apply himself. He was mostly interested in his friends. She hadn't been
any different at his age, and she would have spent most of her time with her friends, too, but her mother would never have allowed it
Sen finished chopping a stalk of scallions and put down his knife in order to glance at his phone. "Hey mom, Vince has to do something with his family on Friday night. He asked if we can hang out right now. Would it be okay if I headed over there
DOW
"Sure."
He tried to read his mother's face, but she just carried on marinating the meat. He grabbed his backpack and threw it over one of his shoulders. Then he headed out the back door of the truck.
He looked back at her serving her first guest. She was smiling, but it was a distant smile. Without saying a word, he climbed back into the food truck.
Juk glanced ever but still dide't say a word.
He picked up his knife and a handful of scallions and started chopping.

Type your answer here. Click or tap here to enter your answer.
Answer:
Explanation:
In "Bul-001-gi," the theme of balancing tradition and individuality is developed through the character of Suk and various details in the story. Firstly, Suk's mother wanted her to become a lawyer and succeed by American standards, but Suk decided to start a food truck business to honor her mother and show that she valued what her mother had taught her. This shows how Suk respected her mother's wishes but also found a unique way to pursue her own passion. Secondly, Suk's mother made her take Korean lessons and play the violin, but Suk decided not to force her son to do the same. This highlights how Suk is trying to find a balance between honoring her cultural heritage and allowing her son to pursue his own interests.
Additionally, Suk's love for burnt end barbecue and the Kansas City Chiefs shows how she has embraced American culture while still valuing her Korean heritage. This represents the struggle of many immigrants and their descendants to maintain their cultural identity while assimilating into American society. Finally, Sen's reluctance to chop scallions for his mother but willingness to hang out with his friend Vince reflects the generational divide in values and interests. Sen's lack of interest in his mother's request shows how younger generations often prioritize their own desires over traditional expectations.
Overall, the character of Suk and various details in the story highlight the theme of finding a balance between tradition and individuality in a changing world. The story suggests that honoring one's cultural heritage while pursuing personal passions is possible and necessary for the growth and development of new generations.

Why did the rise of factories create new opportunities for social mobility?
A.
Factories make all of those who work there wealthy.
B.
The expansion of business always creates social mobility.
C.
Factories created diverse careers requiring varying levels of skill.
D.
The structure of cities is designed to move people out of lower classes.
The correct answer is C. The rise of factories created new opportunities for social mobility because it created diverse career opportunities requiring varying levels of skill.
The factory system required not factories only unskilled laborers but also skilled workers such as engineers, managers, and machine operators, among others. The industrialization of society increased the demand for specialized skills, and the factory system provided a way for people to acquire these skills and advance in their careers. Therefore, option C, that factories created diverse careers requiring varying levels of skill, is the best explanation for why the rise of factories created new opportunities for social mobility. Option A is incorrect as not all workers in factories are wealthy, and option B is not necessarily true as the expansion of business does not always result in social mobility. Option D is also incorrect as the structure of cities does not necessarily create social mobility.

As you go along with this module, you will be reading the story Ramayana, an epic from India.
The story was written by Maharshi Valmiki, a Hindu sage who lived around the beginning of the first millennium B.C. He is referred to as the 'adikavi', the original creator of the Hindu 'sloka' - a verse form in which most of the great epics such as Ramayana, Mahabharata, Puranas, and other works are composed.
The Ramayana is an ancient Sanskrit comprising of 24,000 verses in seven cantos. The epic contains the teachings of the very ancient Hindu sages. It is one of the most important literary works of ancient India which greatly influenced art and culture in the Indian subcontinent and South-East Asia.

The Story of Ramayana by Maharshi Valmiki
Long ago, Dasharatha, the wise king of Ayodhya of Sarayu, India had three wives. Though the King had three wives, he didn't have any children with them. The Chief priest Vasishta advised the king to make fire sacrifice to obtain a blessing from the gods.
After the gods were pleased, one of them appeared out of the flame and handed him a pot full of nectar. The god told the king to share the nectar with his three queens namely Kaikeye, Kausalya, Sumitra.
and
While the nectar had been shared, the three queens gave birth to sons: Kausalya had Rama; Kaikeye had Bharatha; and Sumitra had twins Lakshmana and Shatrughna. A sage took the boys out to train them in archery.
In a neighboring city, the ruler's daughter was named Sita. When it was time for Sita to choose her bridegroom, at a ceremony called a Swayamvara, the princes were asked to string a giant bow. No one else could even lift the bow, but as Rama bent it, he did not only string it but also broke it into two. Sita indicated that she chose Rama as her husband by putting a garland around his neck. The disappointed suitors were watching.
Ravana's men captured Hanuman, and Ravana ordered them to wrap Hanuman's tail in cloth and to set it on fire. With his tail burning, Hanuman hopped from house-top to house-top, setting Lanka a fire. He then flew back to Rama to tell him where Sita was.
Rama,
Lakshmana,
and the monkey army built a causeway from the tip of India crossing over to Lanka. A mighty battle took place. Rama killed several of
Ravana's brothers and then Rama confronted ten-headed Ravana. Rama finally killed Ravana and freed Sita. After Sita gained her freedom from Ravana, she proved purity through the trial by her fire. Then, they returned to Ayodhya and Rama became the king.
As Rama became the king, he ruled Ayodhya with Ramrajya - an ideal time when everyone does his or her duties and responsibilities. Source: https://www.litcharts.com/lit/the-ramayana/summary.

The movement of people, ideas, beliefs, and cultures across America’s shifting borders and the consequences of these migrations are central to the American story. Diego Rivera—a prominent leader of the 1920s Mexican Mural Movement—produced some of his most famous work in American cities. As an outspoken member of the Mexican Communist Party, Rivera invited criticism during his travels, but even his most controversial works resonated with American audiences during the Great Depression. His Detroit Industry Murals—a National Historic Landmark—celebrated American industry and Detroit’s factory workers’ strength and dignity.
Latino/a Americans have been some of the most vocal and successful advocates for civil rights in the United States. During the 1960s, labor activists Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez formed the United Farm Workers of America, a joint Latino/a and Filipino organization that created the first permanent agricultural labor union in the United States. Along with the efforts of Filipino activists like Larry Itliong, the UFW established headquarters at Forty Acres in Delano. California’s farm workers successfully executed the Delano grape strike and boycott, which drew national attention to unsafe working conditions and resulted in a 1970 settlement with California's entire table grape industry.

A person's civil rights are a set of legal and social protections against prejudice, discrimination, and unfair treatment on the basis of their race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or other traits. Throughout history, civil rights movements have worked to protect these rights for underrepresented groups and provide equal access to opportunities in housing, employment, education, and voting. The LGBTQ+ Rights Movement, the Women's Rights Movement, and the African American Civil Rights Movement are a few examples of civil rights movements. Significant pieces of legislation that helped protect marginalised communities' civil rights in the United States include the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Civil rights action, however, continues to be an important component of promoting equality and rejecting discrimination because these issues still exist.
