Identify the climax in “The Interlopers” and explain how the climax and the falling action reveal the central idea or theme of the short story. Use evidence from the text to support your response. Your response should be one to two complete paragraphs.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The climax of this conflict comes as the two men shout to beckon what they think are their hunters. Moreover, this climax is really the point of highest intensity in the story, and it comes near the end as is customary for climaxes.

Having reconciled their differences, the two men, enemies who have begun a friendship, decide that since the wind has lessened, they may be able to reach the hearing of their hunters who are patrolling the wooded strip of land. Ulrich suggests,

"Let's shout for help...in this lull our voices may carry a little way."

Georg observes that it will be almost impossible for their voices to carry through the dense forest with its trees and undergrowth: "...but we can try. Together then." And the two men raise their voices together. Soon, Ulrich tells Georg that he has heard something; however, Georg replies that he has heard nothing. After a silence of a few moments, Ulrich cries out joyfully, "I can see figures coming through the woods."

Together both men summon the figures by shouting as loud as they can. After a few moments, Ulrich cries out in joy,

"They hear us! They've stopped. Now they see us. They're running down the hill toward us."

"Who are they?" asks Georg, who hopes his men are on the way so that he can be the first one to extend courtesies to his new friend. But, Ulrich would rather that he did not recognize them, nor have called them: "Wolves."

Q.1) Read this short passage and answer the question below:

Cruising into a Driverless Future

By Chloe Reichel

Eerie as it may seem to drive alongside a car with no one behind the wheel, autonomous vehicles are poised to hit the roads in the next few years. A lawsuit between Uber and Waymo, Google’s self-driving car project, settled in February 2018 illustrates the fierce battle to develop driverless car technology. Many cars already employ semi-autonomous technology, such as parking assistance and lane monitoring. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) suggests that automated vehicles could promote safety on the road. According to NHTSA’s Federal Automated Vehicles Policy, 94 percent of car accidents are linked to human choice or error. Automated vehicles, the NHTSA writes, could reduce the frequency of crashes by eliminating some human error on the roads. The policy indicates positive features of automated vehicles beyond safety, including potential environmental benefits and increased mobility for those otherwise unable to drive. The cutting-edge technology, however, presents ethical questions and other concerns. Some research included in this roundup indicates that the environmental effects of widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles might not be positive. Safety benefits are not so clear-cut either.

The author organizes this passage by—

A) comparing and contrasting different findings on autonomous vehicles

B) explaining the best way to research the safety of autonomous vehicles

C) presenting in chronological order the progress of autonomous vehicles

D) describing the outcome of extensive research on autonomous vehicles

Q.2) Which quotation challenges the idea that automated vehicles are a welcomed commodity?
A) “Automated vehicles, the NHTSA writes, could reduce the frequency of crashes by eliminating some human error on the roads.”
B) “Some research included in this roundup indicates that the environmental effects of widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles might not be positive. Safety benefits are not so clear-cut either. “
C) “Eerie as it may seem to drive alongside a car with no one behind the wheel, autonomous vehicles are poised to hit the roads in the next few years.”
D) “Many cars already employ semi-autonomous technology, such as parking assistance and lane monitoring.”

Answer:

sorry if I'm late but I believe the first one is C supports the idea that automated vehicles could reduce the high number of accidents linked to human choice and error. And the second one is  D)  “Many cars already employ semi-autonomous technology, such as parking assistance and lane monitoring.”

Explanation:

The author organizes this passage by comparing and contrasting different findings on autonomous vehicles. Thus, the correct option is 1(A), 2(D).

What do you mean by autonomous vehicles?

Autonomous vehicles utilize technology to substitute the human operator in driving a vehicle from point A to point B while avoiding road dangers and reacting to traffic conditions.

Self-driving vehicles have the potential to reduce traffic congestion, reduce crashes, save lives, enhance safety, and make transit more available to those who are unable to drive.

The following are the primary components of a self-driving car:

Vision in computers (how a car sees) Fusion of sensors (how a car understands its environment) Localization (how a vehicle understands its position) (how a car knows its location)

Excerpt from A Study in Scarlet
By Conan Doyle

In the year 1878 I took my degree of Doctor of Medicine of the University of London and proceeded to Netley to go through the course prescribed for surgeons in the army. Having completed my studies there, I was duly attached to the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers as Assistant Surgeon. The regiment was stationed in India at the time, and before I could join it, the second Afghan war had broken out. On landing at Bombay, I learned that my corps had advanced through the passes and was already deep in the enemy’s country. I followed, however, with many other officers who were in the same situation as myself, and succeeded in reaching Candahar in safety, where I found my regiment, and at once entered upon my new duties. The campaign brought honors and promotion to many, but for me it had nothing but misfortune and disaster. I was removed from my brigade and attached to the Berkshires, with whom I served at the fatal battle of Maiwand. There I was struck on the shoulder by a Jezail bullet, which shattered the bone and grazed the subclavian artery. I should have fallen into the hands of the murderous Ghazis had it not been for the devotion and courage shown by Murray, my orderly, who threw me across a pack-horse, and succeeded in bringing me safely to the British lines. Worn with pain, and weak from the prolonged hardships which I had undergone, I was removed, with a great train of wounded sufferers, to the base hospital at Peshawar. Here I rallied, and had already improved so far as to be able to walk about the wards, and even to bask a little upon the verandah, when I was struck down by enteric fever. For months my life was despaired of, and when at last I came to myself and became convalescent, I was so weak and emaciated that a medical board determined that not a day should be lost in sending me back to England. I was dispatched, accordingly, in the troopship “Orontes,” and landed a month later on Portsmouth jetty, with my health irretrievably ruined.
The author uses the words “when I was struck down” to convey what to the reader?
A) That the fever made the narrator really sick, causing him permanent health issues.

C) Somebody hit him because he was sick.
D) That he was attacked in the battle but survived.

Friendship is a wonderful thing where humans interact with one another and develop a bond. It is built on trust dependence and the ability to rely on one another. There is a certain point however, where one so called “friend” oversteps the boundary of dependence and over relies on the other person. In this case, Lennie oversteps this boundary, becoming like a clinging parasite who can’t function while alone. Lennie knows that George dose many good things for him, but he still acts out. George not only has to

sacrifice a lot for Lennie he even pre plans things to do when Lennie gets himself into trouble.

For starters, Lennie acknowledges the fact that George dose so much for him and still refuses to change. His hallucination even stated George is "such a nice fella an' good to you. But you don’t never take no care" (Steinbeck 11). Lennie knows how well treated he is by George but he still can't control himself even for his best bud. Not only did he get himself in trouble once he did it twice. This truly shows the one-sidedness of this relationship. Additionally, His hallucination noted that "when he got a piece of a pie you always got half or more'n half" (Steinbeck 12). This shows how much George cares about Lenie and would go to lengths as even sacrificing a his own pleasure for him. I know for certain that when someone sacrifices there food for you it means that they really care for you or pity you. Even after George graciously gave many things to Lennie to give him pleasure, Lennie refuses to learn or change even though he clearly sees that George is being very kind to him. Moreover, he does all this for you and you just "stew the b'Jesus out of George all the time" (Steinbeck 16) His hallucination said. This proves that Lennie knows that he is not doing anything nice for George while Gorge is doing all these nice things for him. Lennie is intelligent enough to notice that George is supporting him and going out of his way to be kind to Lennie, while Lennie just takes and takes and takes and repays him in screwups and bad actions. As you can tell, Lennie knows that George is doing so much for him and that he is not repaying him fairly. This proves that he is not a good friend but a pericyte.

Additionally, George is not only being kind to Lennie, he is sacrificing a huge chunk of his life for him. For starters, Lennies hallucination retorted, this whole time "he coulda had such a good time if it wasn’t for you. He woulda took his pay an' raised **** in a ware house..." (Steinbeck 15). This shows the pleasurable life George could have had if it wasn't for the clinging weight of his parasitic so called friend Lennie. George could have had fun and lived his life worry free but he had a unnecessary responsibility witch was Lennie, that he was obligated to take care of. Additionally, Gorge even said himself that "If I was alone I could live so easy" (Steinbeck 42). This proves that George realizes what a parasitic burden Lennie is and the grim reality of the situation. This is what have could have possibly led him to killing Lennie. He finally noticed that Lennie could not change and rather than letting him suffer without him he did him a favor by ending his life. It was the last kind thing George did to Lennie. Furthermore, Lennies hallucination exclaimed that whenever there "was any ketchup, why he'd give it all to you" (Steinbeck 12). This is a perfect representation of how much George truly gives to the parasitic person he calls a friend. Lennie continuously gives his all just to get nothing- or worse than nothing- in return. Friendship is a give and take relationship that should be mutually shared between friends but in this instance we can clearly see that Lennie over stepped the boundary and takes more than what he gives. All and all, You can clearly see who is sacrificing more to maintain this toxic one sided friendship.

Or if you get a bit of money, say a $5,000 tax refund, you could apply it to your principal loan balance. The faster you pay off your mortgage, the less you will pay in interest, reducing your overall loan cost. However, this option should be considered in the context of your larger financial situation. How much will you save by making extra payments? The amount you can save by making extra mortgage payments is one of the first things you need to figure out as that number will enable you to compare it to other options. Lets take a look at how much you could save on interest over the life of a 30-year, $200,000 loan with a 3.5% interest rate if you paid $50, $100 and $250 extra each month. Just paying an extra $50 per month will shave 2 years and 7 months off the loan and will save you over $12,000 in the long run. If you can up your payments by $250, the savings increase to over $40,000 while the loan term gets cut down by almost a third. The savings can be substantial. Use a mortgage calculator to figure out your estimated savings. Then, compare that to the savings or returns you can get by investing the same money elsewhere.Ways to prepay your mortgagePay more every monthThe first option is to analyze your budget and see if you can afford to increase the amount you pay on your mortgage each month. Even if you can only commit to $25 or $50, it can save you thousands over the course of the loan.Make an extra payment each year Another option is to make one extra payment each year that is equal to your normal payment amount. This can be a good option if you get a bonus or tax refund each year.Make a lump-sum paymentSometimes situations come about which leave people with a lump sum of money, like receiving an inheritance. While exciting, it can also be stressful because you want to use the money wisely. Using lump sums to pay down your mortgage helps to reduce your interest and increase equity faster, which is a helpful investment. It can also ensure that the money is invested rather than spent.Mix it up You can also use a combination of these approaches, such as paying a little bit more each month and then making a larger one-time payment when you can.The right payment strategy for you will depend on your financial situation. For example, if your budget is tight and you cant commit to paying more every month but have certain months when your income is higher, you can commit to making an extra payment during those months. Alternatively, if you dont receive any income boosts throughout the year but have a little bit of disposable income each month, the monthly payment option will be a better fit. When not to pay extraPaying extra on your mortgage can be helpful but it isnt always the best use of your money.Whether you should pay extra on your mortgage or not depends on the rest of your financial picture. If you have credit card debt, an expensive car loan, or other high-interest debt, youll want to pay that down before making extra payments on your mortgage, Matthew McEwan, VP of real estate development and property management firm Medallion Capital Group, said.Additionally, if you are a savvy investor who can tolerate some risk, you may be able to achieve a higher rate of return by investing that money instead, McEwan said. What to do before paying off your loan earlyBefore you pay off your mortgage early, there are a few things you should do. For one thing, youll want to meet all of your regular necessary expenses (rent, food, clothing, etc.). Next, ensure you pay off any debts you have with interest rates that are higher than the interest rate on your mortgage. For example, if you have a $5,000 balance on a credit card with an 18% APR and your mortgage has a 4% APR, youll save more by paying down the credit card first. Its also recommended to make sure that you have an emergency savings account that is equal to at least three months of pay, and preferably six. Moreover, confirm that you and your dependents are enrolled in the insurance policies you need to protect yourselves in the future. This often includes health, property, auto, disability and life policies. If you have an employer offer to match your retirement savings up to a certain percentage, max out the company contributions. The earlier you invest in retirement, the better. Explain the differences between political and physical maps (3-4 sentences) In AB blood, the A and the B alleles have?
